Retirement Visa

Retiring in Thailand has never been easier than it is today, with the process of applying for and obtaining a Retirement Visa made very easy and accessible for seniors worldwide.  Thailand has a very accessible system of application for a Retirement Visa

The individual making the retirment visa application must be 50 years of age or older.

The individual must demonstrate proof of funds through any of the available options below:

1. Security deposit of THB 800,000 (US$ 26,000) in personal name of a Thai bank account, active for at least 3 months before applying for a visa.

2. Show proof of monthly income of THB 65,000 (US$ 2,100) (original pay certification copy).

3. Combination of security deposit and annual income with a total of 800,000 THB (US$ 26,000).

If a couple applies together, they need only jointly show proof of the THB 800,000 deposit.

Medical certificate (if the visa is obtained whilst in Thailand this is not required).

Police clearance form (if the visa is obtained whilst in Thailand this is not required).

The individual must have secured a visa for non-immigrants to enter Thailand (Non-Imm O) as a visitor.  This can be obtained from the Thai embassy in their country of origin or in Thailand.

Once you are in Thailand and have met the requirements, this will be converted into a one-year retirement visa.

If the individual is married, the partner may also receive a retirement visa regardless of age but the pair must provide a notarized version of their marriage certificate from the Thai embassy in their home country into the Thai language.

The retirement visa is valid for one year and can be extended as long as the individual meets the requirements of the application.

The retirement visa holder must report his / her address to the immigration office every 90 days either by visiting the immigration office directly or by sending mail (7 days before the 90-day term).

The above conditions also apply to the renewal of the visa at the end of the period of 1 year (visa extension).

The holder of a retirement visa in Thailand is not permitted to work or earn income.
